Sweet sound. Everything fit nicely together, but imo the pitchbend did not seem right to me.

That's all I got to say for now.

Comixnik responds:

yeah I felt a bit iffy with the modulation, but I couldn't change from the samples I'd created

Weird tunings are the bomb! There is really nothing for me to critique because this is just a guitar track and I've been enjoying it since the start.

You should listen to Stuart Hamm, he does a lot of cool stuff like this.

SineRider responds:

Haha I totally agree. I just start changing string tunings til I find something I like and then wrote this tune around it. I may add some more instruments to it, and really fill it out.

I've listened to a bit of Stuart Hamm but that was years ago, I'll check him out again!

ha ha ha, I love those cheesy midi sound fonts. it sounds so old school. either way, you really put them to good use.

nice fast jazzy melodies. maybe if this was around a funk bpm it'd be even cooler. yeah, as I listen to this more, a funky tempo would be sick.

so many organ hits ftw!!!

cool stuff. fav'ing you ^____^

DuttonsaysHi responds:

Aw thanks bro! and yeah :P I wish I had some real saxophone and brass players to work with to get a more realistic sound since it's hard to do that with soundfonts :c.

Haha yeah deciding a tempo for this was difficult when I decided to use 3/4. it started at 110 bpm but the intro wasn't smooth enough. So I set it back a little to 90 bpm but then the following sections weren't swinging enough. So I decided on 130 and time stretch the intro a little.

Thanks again!

hmm.. sounds like a lot of 3x 0sc. As much as I love that instrument, it would sound a lot better if you tweaked that more. (I'm 80% sure you used that).

once the drone section of the song came in, it felt like the intro was out of place. this song could just be fine without it.

those are just my two cents. good work overall.

jnk1296 responds:

Nope, you are wrong sir. I don't particularly care for 3xOsc at all, and it wasn't used in this at all. I used Nexus for most of the sounds.

And, well, I do suppose you're right about that intro not fitting. But then, it is for a development game, so there's always time to improve the various aspects of it, music included.

Thanks for the feedback.

hmm.. I feel like that was a kind of unnecessary long build up. I wanted to start jumping around after the first build, but you took it away from me. that's why you should generally stay away from quick build ups like those.

you got a solid mix though. everything was solid.

let me know when the final is out!

aliaspharow responds:

You're obviously not used to my style, I love doing builds like these and I'm not gonna change. This is just the intro to a track that will probably be around 6 minutes long. I appreciate your feedback though

cool shit. you kept my interest throughout the whole song. there was quite a bit of variation, but you kept the same theme. good job on that.

the only thing I didn't like was that your percussion was too "punchy" for me. that's just a personal preference I think.

keep it up.

AngelofPeace responds:

Thanks, dude. I'm still experimenting with drum sounds, trying to get it exactly right.
Thank you for the honest feedback.

making melodies like these are fun. it may sound complex, but it is actually simple. it sounds like something you would hear off of simcity 2000, because you didn't really add any FX. just pure midi.

cool stuff, I'm fav'ing this song.

VinnyThunder responds:

Well thank you Rhoder, it is true that in MIDI fairly dense instrumental music like this can be deceptively simple to compose. And thanks for the fav!

beautiful. I managed to get lost in this song around the 4 minute mark. You have a real talent for transitions, chord variations, etc.

the only thing I didn't like was the long intro where it was just quiet. dam, that flute around 7:25 was gorgeous.

keep it up man. i'll follow you.

Fubaka responds:

Thank you. Yes, this song is a bit quieter around the ends than most, but I kind of felt that was appropriate for this particular piece.

Also, that 'flute' you mention is actually a recording of me whistling. I altered the sound a bit, of course, but there's some interesting trivia for you.

Thank you for your review.

bleeps bloops everywhere. I dig. very pretty intro and your transitions were beautiful. I feel like the lowpass drums were a bit odd though, but that's just a matter of opinion.

cool stuff bro, 5/5.

SineRider responds:

Thanks man :) I agree the drums are a bit awkward sounding and thrown in for the heck of it. I was having trouble creating decent sounding drums with the Kamioooka, and it also sounds offbeat because every other sound is running at a different rate and not synced to the tempo of the drums.

I make all kinds of music. Be sure to add me to your favourites, I'll be uploading tunes a couple times a month!
